Are you training your Physical Educational students functionally? Functional training is training a full spectrum work, in multiple planes, using multiple joints, incorporating full range of motion that is proprioceptively demanding.

The goal of Functional Training is to develop Athleticism, the ability to perform athletic movements (Run, Jump, Throw, & Lift) with sound technique at optimum speed, with precision, style and grace within the context of your activity/sport.

Foundational Building Blocks

(“We hold these truths to be self-evident…”)

1. The body IS the machine.

“If you don’t take care of your body, where will you live?”

2. Teaching our students HOW to be fit is our main responsibility.

“Physical Education is the only subject that has the potential to effect how a person feels every moment of every day for the rest of their life”

3. The brain-body connection DOES NOT WORK in isolation.

“The brain recognizes SYNERGIES. Train to enhance LINKAGE”

4. Foundational Strategies for Functional Training

Train MOVEMENTS, not muscles.

Build a menu of equipment-less movements, and master those FIRST.

Move in ALL THREE planes of motion, and emphasize the TRANSVERSE plane.
Total-body resistance training involves…

PUSHING

PULLING

ROTATING (or Core Stability)

LEGS (lunging, squatting, etc.)

Strive to perform movements with PRECISION, then implement proper
PROGRESSION (Stability, Strength, Power) using a VARIETY of activities
and fitness tools.
